Hello kind folks on the other site of the screen,
what is your human experience like lately?
February was a gentle month for me, which I am so grateful for. I worked on a bunch of exciting websites, read seven whole books, made a ton of pancakes, wrote an essay about 19th century masculinity for uni and let that be enough. Tulips I planted in deep winter are slowing coming up now and friends in the South are telling me about what is to come a few weeks later here in the North.
I also managed to spent two whole days in a little village by the sea with books and some writing. Sometimes I steal away a surprise day off, book daycare for my dog and go to said village to write on the benches overlooking the sea or propped against the cliffs. Amazingly, the kind of writing I do in that way is very different - it’s kind of light, easy, it has a different rhythm to it. Dare I say I think the next time I go I might attempt some poetry because that too can be a part of living through these times, no doubt. I finally managed to write a short story about my friend Frances, will I will publish in zine form next month - stay tuned.
In conversations with clients and friends lately we’re often asking about what is aspirational these days. What conventional ideas around success are we rejecting, what are we moving towards? I have started doing two hours of paper book reading on a Monday morning before starting work and it makes me feel very accomplished indeed. We were also talking a lot about getting more eccentric in the face of hellscapes - what a joyous goal. What does it mean to you? To become more fully your weird and wild self as you age?
Otherwise, I am preparing for another leg surgery in mid-march. This was a long time coming and I am glad to finally have a date. In the following six weeks I will carry on facilitating the sweet online spaces for Stitching Together (come join us!) and might come to you with an occasional episode, but I wont be booking any client work (which means I am currently booking for May, you can book a call about that here).
Love,
Yarrow
